Morivarid
Big eyed and friendly looking, the morivarid are found in shoals, just like fish. They are cleaners of The Murk. Encounter them in the wild and they will suck out your eyeballs and eat your tongue, before picking the flesh from your bones.
The Morivarids are small enough to miss until they are already on you. They make a sound like a wet cough. Target selection is precise: soft tissue, corneal surface, anything that was once moist and is now accessible. Think mosquito. Think piranha. Think the specific intersection of those two things that keeps you awake at 3am.
They come in threes. This is not anecdotal — it appears to be a biological requirement. One to distract, one to feed, one to watch. Which is which changes faster than you can track. The problem is that killing one does not reduce the threat. It reduces it by one third. The remaining two become significantly less cautious.
Field note: they do not like smoke. I am not suggesting you set yourself on fire. I am saying it has been useful on more than one occasion.
