Postcard from The Dark Peak · #12
Revenge of the Tards
You wake face down in a fold above Storrs at lowmurk, mouth full of peat, no memory of the six hours before it. Forty wooltards stood over you, heads up, all facing the same wall. Then it calls. It only ever calls twice, and you've already had the first one.
There's no briefing this time, no job to accept or refuse. You're a chitchaser who went up the Loxley valley to collect a debt and woke up somewhere else entirely. Getting off the hill alive is the whole of it.
Field notes by Pip Rippon. This one is different.
What’s inside
- One Dark Peak location: Storrs, above the Loxley valley, S6
- Three creatures from the Bestiary, including the Oldbrownhorn boss encounter
- A running "Closing" mechanic: the herd behind you gets faster the longer the murkneet goes on, and it never resets
- A 2d6 Encounter Table, 12 results, none of them slowing anything down
- Three outcomes depending on how much HP you've got left at the bridge
- Pip Rippon's field notes throughout, including why this one broke the usual format

The story behind it: Revenge of the Tards, in Urban Myths and Hymns.
What’s waiting out there
The night this really happened
Pip told this one straight, afterward, at the Sportsman in Lower Bradfield, over a pint that wasn't Pip's round:
"I went up to Storrs at murkfall. The next thing in my head I'd swear to in front of an exacid is lying face down in a fold at lowmurk with a mouth full of peat and my hands under me like I'd been set down rather than fallen. That's the gap. Murkfall to lowmurk, the whole of the early murkneet, gone."
What you need
Two six-sided dice, something to write with, and one evening. No GM, no group, no preparation. It’s a solo tabletop RPG scenario: one location in Hellsborough and The Dark Peak, a handful of creatures from the Bestiary, and a very bad night.
Never played a solo RPG before? The first Postcard Adventure, Something in the Hole, has a complete example game you can follow once and have it.
When you want more
Every Postcard Adventure uses the same three stats, Grit, Wit and Murk. Foked is what they grow into: the full solo ruleset, where your stats are your flesh and your character carries every scar into the next job. The core rules are free.
