Exacid
Biologically engineered crabs with heavily armoured shells and very effective pincers, the exacid are the enforcers of The Dark Peak, with licence to use deadly force. Able to appear in bipedal form with the same armour and pincer weapons, they are not considered unusual by the human population of Hellsborough. Created by and fiercely loyal to The Nascenti, exacids are as visible as the nascenti are hidden — frequently present in large numbers, especially at events where humans in the nether lands -- the nethermen attendance is expected.
The Exacids work for the Nascenti. They are not bright. These two facts are related but the causality is unclear — whether the Nascenti recruit the least intellectually capable creatures available, or whether working for the Nascenti does something to cognitive function over time, has not been determined. Either answer is unsatisfying.
They are solidly built — dense shell, heavy lateral claw, effective in a straight-line engagement — and they operate with the confidence of things that have never been asked to think for themselves. They will attempt the same approach three times before pausing, and this pause is your window. The problem is not the Exacid. The problem is what sent the Exacid.
Field note: if you encounter an Exacid and there is no Nascenti visible, there is a Nascenti nearby that has decided not to show itself yet. Plan accordingly.
