Syncarid
Syncarid, the least possible to define entity of the murk, are variably sized stingray type creatures capable of enveloping and stinging anyone to death — known as the shadows and ghosts of the murk (but distinct from murk wraith) — but they can also appear in human form, and fulfil the role of programmers and synchronisers of code within the massive quantum-organic computer that is The Dark Peak.
The Syncarid doesn't announce itself. You feel the pull before you understand what's pulling. Size does not correlate with danger in the way you'd hope. The smallest Syncarid, barely visible in murk-fog, can reduce a functioning adult to a compliant one inside three minutes. The large specimens tend toward patience — they have developed the practice of waiting.
They feed through the Murk layer: the dark matter that sits between rational thought and the hex. Technically what they consume is not the mind itself but the programme running inside it — the accumulated decisions and self-preservation instincts that make you a person rather than a body. At 0 Murk, you walk toward them. This does not feel like a loss of control. It feels like a very good idea.
Field note: carry something that smells strongly of iron. Unconfirmed, but consistent across field reports.
