Squarkwing
A gull, and Hellsborough's version has lost none of the temperament you'd recognise from any off-world seaside chip shop car park. What it's gained is patience, and patience on a bird that size is worth taking seriously.
A squarkwing (occasionally squawkwing) will sit on a roofline or a bin store for hours, apparently doing nothing, and it is doing nothing in the specific way a lurker does nothing -- watching a pattern, learning when the chip papers come out, when the bins get opened, when a person's hands are too full to fight back. Then it drops, fast and low, and takes what it wants directly from the hand or the face, and it does not startle off after one attempt the way an off-world gull would.
They work in pairs more often than flocks, one bird as a decoy at ground level while the second comes in from above, which is a level of coordination I have not managed to explain to my own satisfaction. The wingspan alone is enough to knock a smaller person down, and the beak takes a chunk with it rather than pecking and retreating.
They nest on the old mill chimney stacks in numbers that have only grown, and nobody in Hellsborough has found a way to move them on that doesn't involve losing an eyebrow.
Field note: eat in the open in Hellsborough and you're gambling. If you must, keep your back to a wall and your food below chest height. A squarkwing wants a clean strike from above.
