Everyone tells the same story about Sophie Hinchcliffe — local shop girl, killed by gabbleratchets on the towpath at Loxley Bottom, walking again not long after. What the story leaves out is that she was not brought back, she was built: nascenti scientists working to vegahorn instruction, her own recovered cells, and a second ingredient they had been keeping in reserve for exactly this kind of occasion — DNA belonging to B'enderclaw. She grew up twice, and the second time came with a bigger brain, lungs to match and more than one heart; the vegahorn did not install a sympathetic CEO, they grew their own god's grandchild and gave her a desk.
Hellsborough Exposed

I have given up asking waders what it looked like and started asking what it felt like, which turns out to be the far more consistent question — three separate people, years apart and unprompted, gave me the same phrase: a bar of soap with a temper on it. If the thing that brushes you lingers rather than bolting, get out of the water, because a slipper that is curious is a slipper that is deciding.
