In 1927 a sickness runs through the clowns, who still rule The Dark Peak. Their Registry of Deaths in Buxton counts the dead. Then a second count appears in the margins, in no clerk's hand, and sometimes it is written before the deaths happen. A standalone novel told in the Registry's own documents, as they were carried over the moors to Hathersage.
