Two different animals get called a flutterby here, and only one is the pretty one. Touch a Decorated's wing dust and it flakes off your fingers until murkfall as a cold blue itch; a Horned you hear first, a dry fingernail clatter three fields over and getting closer, and its proboscis is longer than its body and doesn't sip. You won't feel it land. You'll feel the third or fourth minute.

Onesmoor punishes you twice: first a hot, dripping climb up through the Coumes wood, where Shad stays on edge though the coumes rift worm is long dead, then the moor's full crosswind hitting your soaked body at the treeline. Twelve hundred feet up, the view stretches to the end of the world, if the murk lets you have it. Last New Year's Day it did, and the squall came for me instead.
