Buzzer is the laziest word in Hellsborough's vocabulary — it covers anything droning near your ear that's gone before you get a shape on it, and most are as harmless as that sounds. The few that aren't give themselves away not by pitch but by the pause: a harmless drone runs continuous, a dangerous one cuts out for half a second right before it lands, as if checking the angle. I've stopped squinting at the thing in my peripheral vision and just listen for the gap.

There's a boggart on Boggard lane, which is either a coincidence too neat to be one or the reason the lane got its name — a resident hob, the useful sort rather than the malevolent, centred on the building called the Asplands. Caught it at gloaming once, hiding in the shadows; Shad snarled, the thing shuffled off, and I wasn't quick enough on the psycmask to get a shot. You get one sighting out of the corner of your eye and that's your lot.
