cresentwings are swifts, near enough, built never to land, and they spend Fecunder wheeling over Hellsborough's rooftops in screaming parties. Watch a party long enough and you'll see it bank half a second before anything you can see would explain why. My working theory, which nobody has yet talked me out of, is that they read the hive mind's chatter the way a flock reads the flit beside it, turning on a signal the rest of us don't get. One on its own is harmless. When a whole party goes silent and climbs, hard, straight up and out of sight, it has heard something in the traffic worth leaving the sky over. Get under cover, because in my experience whatever it was arrives at street level inside the minute.
