One barking dog in Hellsborough is a dog. Three or four barkers spaced along a ginnel and taking turns sound exactly like a street full of ordinary dogs objecting to nothing, which is what keeps you walking through instead of round. Cross over before you're level with the second one, because by then the third is already behind you.

Out near Strines, a handful of moldenk on dirt racers sat complaining at a public bridleway gate that someone had locked. I'm sure the Exacid have their reasons; they generally do, and they generally keep them to themselves. A locked gate is less of an obstacle to a barghest than to me, as I proved by making a hash of the fence.
