Hellsborough Park played host to the ten zero event — officially a DPDC-funded festival, but thick with jellyheads and Netherlander Alliance flags on every third item of headwear, a detail the Exacid henchmen of The Nascenti chose to overlook entirely. On the third day, the one I chose to miss, a bomb went off and there was shooting — which reached me on the common as a distant crackling sound, not entirely unlike applause.

Down by the Rivelin in high murk — me and shad minding our own business when a barker that looked like the chaotic offspring of a ripperthroat and something considerably worse went for Shad's leg, apparently for sport. Its owner was apologetic; I gave him the standard warning about The Nascenti compliance. The organic network polices its own out there, eventually.
View full editionMy first crossing through The Hinge was not dramatic. I used a Milting semagram, moved between worlds without moving, and immediately fainted from the murk. Van Hallam found me because he was surfing the scerm at the right moment and his house sits directly on the junction; he describes this as luck, which is his standard way of describing things he clearly arranged.
