Wadsley Common operates as an adventure location in precisely the way an unfenced upland common with a buried crust-cache and several competing creature populations does: proceed quickly, accept that the scrufftails have not cleared out, and note that the eastern drystone wall leans slightly in the direction the rooters habitually travel — which is information, if you know what to do with it. The smeln may or may not be present. The common, by my account, remembers the rooters. It is not clear the common has stopped remembering anything.
