Crossing The Hinge over and over is what weakened it. Early on I was flailing, going back to the off-world whenever I could not stand it here, and that criss-crossing is one reason dark matter is now leaking out of Hellsborough — where dark matter meets ordinary matter the result is complete annihilation, and the leakage stays minimal only while The Hinge holds. Keep crossing and it thins until it ceases to exist altogether, at which point all of it goes through at once: not just Hillsborough S6, not just Sheffield, the whole world — which is why I am staying put.
